Description:
It is a nonionic cellulose ether, no odor and smell, soluble in
cool water, glacial acetic acid, and some organic solvents and
water mixtures, not soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether, acetone.
Its aqueous solution is of surface activity, high transparency and stability, when heated to certain temperature, the solution becomes cloudy and gelling quickly, however, the solution become clear again after cooling.
HPMC has different types varying from its gelling temperature. The solubility is differed from its viscosity, the lower the viscosity, the higher the solubility. However, the solubility in
water is not subject to pH value of its aqueous solution.
The lower methoxyl content of HPMC, the higher gelling temperature, the lower solubility and surface activity.
Dissloving method:
-Heat the
water to above 85 and slowly add HPMC under slow agitation to gradually form uniform pulp, then
cool the solution under agitation until it become transparent.
-Heat certain quantity of
water (normally one third or two third) to above 85 , slowly add HPMC under slow agitation to gradually form uniform pulp, then add cooling
water into solution, stir and
cool the solution at about 20 to be clear.
-Mix HPMC and other powder materials together, then add
water and stir.
-Add HPMC into ethanol or other solvents to be dispersed, then add
water and stir.
