EPA and DHA are the most important omega-3 LC-PUFA (long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid), which are essential to fulfill the physiological functions of human body, e.g. building blocks of cell membrane, precursors of eicosanoids, concentrated source of energy, etc. There are numerous studies proving the health benefits of EPA and DHA, particularly that regular consumption of EPA and DHA could maintain heart health and brain function, and reduce the risk of heart diseases.  

It is clearly that the average intake of EPA and DHA from diets (even balanced diets) in many populations is not adequate to nutritional requirements. Therefore, dietary supplement of EPA and DHA is important to close this nutritional gap.
