Description: 1995 was possibly the year that best defined
Nike. Classic kicks that will be forever in a sneaker freak?s mind were dropped left and right in ?95. However, the big story of 1995 was the Jordan XI. Quite possibly the all time favorite Jordans ever. Performance + Style + Jordan = A huge hit. There honestly was not much this
shoe lacked. Featuring a quick
lace system, a full-length
air sole unit with a corresponding
carbon fiber shank plate, these flashy kicks had substance. The Jordan XI flew off the selves in it?s ?95-?96 release. For many, this was the first stage of the ?shoe craze.?
The infamous, dare I say, ?Breads? (ugh!) or Black Red Jordan XI?s were, and still are, the
fan favorites. This colorway has caused an enormous increase in fake XI?s to roam the market. Other mid cut colorways include White/Black, and White/Columbia Blue. A low cut Jordan XI model was also released with a snakeskin texture as opposed to patent
leather in a slightly different pattern. The original snakeskin colorways include White/Grey/Cobalt and Black/Red.
Once again, we see the
shoe game reach another pinnacle when the Jordan XI Retro was released in October of 2000. The long awaited ?Space Jams? (Black/Blue colorway) was released in December. Another new public release included the Cool Greys. These retro pluses caused such a frenzy across the nation, and even the world. So much for the public being apathetic to the sneaker industry! Riots were caused at many local stores just to be able to spend $125 for these sneakers! Ebay was flooded with the hyped up Cool Grey?s soaring over $200 the day they were released.
More and more colorways kept coming out upon
Nike observing the obvious demand. In a sense it was killing the enjoyment of sporting these Jordans, for us sneaker fanatics at least. In its most literal form, everyone and their mother had patent
leather on their feet.
Nike kept coming back at us, with a variety of low colorways and another rendition of the snakeskins. The demand was so high that
Nike decided to pull off an encore with a release of the Black Red XI?s in Decemeber of ?01. The XI?s are getting a little out of control with all these releases. But, will I still get the Black Red XI Retro?s? Of course. Will I still consider the Jordan XI one of my favorite sneakers? I would say so. Do you?
