Description: he Air Jordan II. Some love it, some hate it, but everyone wants it. Why? "Because it's valuable." Not a
good reason. You should want it because you love it, or in the very least admire it. Why? Besides the V (and maybe III) no other Jordan was as revolutionary. Yeah, yeah, every Jordan is groundbreaking and daring but look at the AJ I then look at the II. Nothing except for that beautiful
ball and wings
logo is shared. The
shoe was introduced in 1986 yet it single handedly changed the way
shoes looked. Like I said look at the Dunk, then the Air Jordan I, and then the Air Jordan II. Man what a difference. The original "space
boot." Allow me to dissect and give you a tour of this beautiful
shoe.
The Air Jordan II was designed by Bruce Kilgore; (for the dummies out there who don't know) the father of the Air Force I. The
shoe was manufactured in Italy, the Mecca for
dress shoes. Not only that, but it had that touch of pimpocity in the faux lizard skin along the side of the
shoe. I mean c'mon the guy was rockin'
gold chains the year before. Then there is the touch of old school
technology in the
plastic heel counter and the red
plastic ribbing at the back of the
shoe. High tech
cool back in the old school. Just to keep it real Bruce kept the NIKE in the back of the
shoe even though this was an Air Jordan not really a
Nike Air Jordan. Ever since this step Air Jordans have never been the same. They slowly claimed a life of their own eventually becoming its own brand 11 years later.
But its NOT all about the shoe? oh no? its as much about the
box as it is the
shoe. Do you mind if we stop and talk about the box? Of course you don't mind if we talk about the
box. No matter what is done, no matter what was done with
shoe packaging there will NEVER be another like it. Oh I've seen flip tops, I've seen montages on tops, I've even seen suitcases but nothing tops the
box for the Air Jordan II. A
box with the Air Jordan
logo across the top may sound simple. Well, actually, it is. But the sides of the wings come down around the ends of the shoebox cut out. How sick is that? A sticker claiming "Made in Italy," as well as the signature of the creator Bruce Kilgore all proudly displayed on the
box. Just the
box alone was worth the price of the shoes? well these days they literally ARE the price of the
shoe.
Just when you thought there couldn't be any more I could say about the Air Jordan II, I have to bring up the Air Jordan II low. Jesus. Some Jordans have tried to replicate the low top mystique of the first one but they never come close. I can't place my finger on it? but there is something about the clean lines, the
unique materials that make them straight PLAYER as low tops.
