" China’s nearly two-decade high economic growth has spurred the rapidly rising demand for consumption of the drinking market. But in alcohol and wine market, the production and demand have been decreasing after 1996. From 1991 to 1996, the country’s alcohol and consumption has grown 8.3% annually. But since 1996, the consumption has been decreasing by 15.2% annually. After these years’ adjustment, the industry will become to increase again. It is forecast that the Chinese income increase will continue to fuel demand for alcohol and wine and to lead the industry in growth. The total market demand for alcohol and wine will increase 6.4% annually to 5 million metric tons in the year 2006. These years, the imports of foreign alcohol and wine increase became to slow. In 2001, the country imported 25,000 metric tons of foreign alcohol and wine. It is forecast that in 2006, the number will come to 28,000 metric tons, growing by 2.2% annually. Output of alcohol and wine reached 3.64 million metric tons in 2001 and will advance to 4.97 million metric tons by 2006, increasing by 6.4% per annum. "
