" A significant amount of meat from ducks is produced each year in the world, despite the fact it is often overlooked by another bird, the chicken. A sharp rise in production, imports, and exports of duck meat has been seen from 1994 to 2003 and from 2002 to 2003. World production of duck meat in 2003 was 3,207,297 metric tons (MT), which was 55,431 MT over production in 2002 (+1.76%) and 1,331,384 MT above 1994's production (+70.97%.) Presently, China leads the world in the production of duck meat, producing approximately 68 percent respectively, and accounting for nearly 30 percent of China's poultry meat. Following China in duck meat production in metric tons are France, Vietnam, Thailand, and India. In regards to head produced, the leading countries are China, France, Vietnam, India, and Thailand. Leaders by way of the percentage of duck production to total poultry production are as follows: Vietnam (18.2%), China (16%), France (11.7%), Korea (10.7%), and Hungary (10.3%). Generally China is the number one consumer, producer, and exporter, as well as a major importer of duck meat."
