" China food industry has achieved high-speed development in the last two decades. In the meantime the fast increase in food additive has proved to be a new growth point. However, with food processing amounts being 10％ of agricultural products, the production value of food industry is only 50％ of that of agricultural products. The food industry has 50％ of production value in the primary processed foods such as rice, flour, meat, oil, sugar, salt, and feeds, while further processing is just of 20％. With the development of agricultural industrialization and the increase in percentage of processed food in daily meals, food additive shall be enjoying a larger development in the future. Increased by 25 percent compared with that in 2004, the catering trade, closely related to food additives and with over 4 million traders, had a turnover of 880 billion yuan increased by 18 percent more than that in 2004. As an essential part of food processing industry and catering trade, food additive and ingredient industry has also gained a more favorable environment and space for development following the rapid advance in catering trade."
