" The common name scallion is associated with various members of the genus Allium that lack a fully-developed bulb. The species most commonly associated with the name is the Welsh onion, Allium fistulosum. Scallion is sometimes used for Allium ascalonicum, better known as the shallot. Scallions are also sometimes known as green onions in the United States. Scallion occupys an important place in vegetable production and marketing in China, that accounted for 10% of the total cultivation area of vegetable crops and 7% of the total vegetable production in China. Some of the scallions are native to China and favored by the Chinese people as special vegetables and flavor vegetables. A few of them and their processed products are important agricultural products."
