strawberry

" China has increased its strawberry production rapidly in recent years to become one of the major strawberry producers in the world. Over the last few years, China’s fresh strawberry production has increased dramatically. China is the second largest fresh strawberry producer, with most of its production utilized by the fresh market. In CY 2001, China exported more than $14 million of frozen strawberries making it the fourth largest exporter in the world. Between 1999 and 2001, China averaged $17 million in frozen strawberry exports. China’s largest export markets were Japan, the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. These top five countries combined to make up 80 percent of China’s frozen strawberries export markets in CY 2001. Local published sources estimate that the country’s annual production is over 120,000 tons on an approximate acreage of 20,000 to 30,000 hectares. For example, China has increased its share of the Japanese frozen strawberry import market from about 38% to more than 60% since 2000, while US share of the same market has declined from about 41% to 20%."
