The present resources bottleneck has boosted the emergence of an industry -- electric bicycle industry. Along with the gradual development of urban transportation, people's tools for walking around are continuously upgrading. Electric bicycle, being a revolutionary achievement of the bicycle industry, has become people's first-choice tool for walking around due to its convenience, laborsaving, environmental protection, energy-saving and moderate prices. After several years of fast development, the electric bicycle industry has now entered into an era of brand competition. After two successive years of fast development in 2003 and 2004, China's electric bicycle industry is keeping thriving. It is estimated that the production and sales volumes of the whole industry in 2005 was between 9.5 million and 10 million. There are lots of new brands emerging into the industry, whilst also quite a few brands have withdrawn from the market. The actual output of the industry was around 12 million in 2005, up by 15 percent to 20 percent compared with the year 2004, and its sales volume reached RMB15 billion. By the year 2005, there had been a thousand of enterprises in the industry that applied for production license of electric bicycles with the types of bicycles being close to 50.
