China produced 4.4801 million km of power wire in the first five months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 33.40％, according to statistics provided by China Electrical Equipment Industry Association. The output of steel-reinforced aluminum conductor, at 333,100 tons, surged 43.43％. China exported nearly US$2.5 billion of cable and wire in the five months, the largest export item in the electrical equipment industry. Data of the first four months shows that in terms of the revenue-profit and cost-profit ratio, the margins of profitability for the main business activities among the 22 sectors in the electrical equipment industry have a difference of nearly three to four times between the top performers and worst achievers. Such gaps are especially wide in the cable and wire sector, which has been the hardest hit by steep rises of prices for copper, aluminum and other main raw materials. The gross profit ratios for some products were as low as about 3％. Stainless steel wire and mesh series products are widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, environmental protection, mine, airspace, paper-making, electronic, metallurgy etc. Stainless steel wire mesh is used as sieve mesh in petroleum industry; as filter-mesh in chemical industry; also used in galvanized industry.
