The Chinese market demand for bromine and derivatives will increase by 7.3% annually to reach 336,700 metric tons in the year 2010. Bromine and derivatives output reached 59,800 metric tons in 1990 and the figure was about 129,300 metric tons in 2000 with the average annual growth rate of 8.0% in the past ten years. It is forecast that the total production of bromine and derivatives will reach 260,100 metric tons by the end of 2010. China will remain a large importer of bromine and derivatives through this century. China will remain importing some kind of bromine and derivatives due to the surging demand and insufficient supply of top grade products by the domestic market. In 1990, China imported 16,800 metric tons of bromine and derivatives and related products. Bromine and derivatives imports will grow by 8.0% per annum to 61,900 metric tons in the year 2005. At the same time, exports of bromine and derivatives were on a small scale. In 1990, exports were only 3,300 metric tons, and the figure reached 7,300 metric tons by the end of 2000. In this century, the exports of bromine and derivatives will continue to increase and the figure will reach 10,600 metric tons in 2005. China's bromine and derivatives industry will be a hot spot for foreign investment through this century.
