Mainland China's and China Taiwan's mobile phone accessory industries continue to expand and are now responsible for almost a quarter of global supply. In 2004, worldwide mobile phone and mobile phone accessories shipments were close to 625 million units. However, additional market growth is predicted — driven by camera phones and 3G models. Demand in the Chinese mobile phone and mobile phone accessories market has been weakening, and competition has grown more intense. Inventory levels are high, and the market is flooded with fake-branded handsets. As a result, in the first quarter of 2005 the Chinese mobile phone industry shipped only 60.3 million handsets, representing a year-on-year decline of 6.5％, and a sequential decline of 10％.
