The second quarter of 2005 saw steady growth in the number of cable modem subscribers worldwide with 2.3 million new subscribers bringing the total to 46.1 million. This represents a year-on-year growth rate of 24.0％. In terms of the growth rates of the cable modem subscribers in the three major markets, North America experienced a 24.3 ％ growth rate, increasing by 1.2 million to 25.4 million; Asia Pacific gained 426,000 new subscribers to make a total of 11.1 million, a growth rate of 15.1％. Finally, Europe gained 617,000 new subscribers, pushing the total number of cable modem subscribers to 48.6 million, a growth rate of 35.2％. Overall, despite a plateau in the number of global cable modem subscribers, the total shipment of Chinese cable modem exceeded three million units as the cable modem operators successfully promoted triple play service.
