Asian and South American countries present lucrative opportunities for companies in global adhesive markets. The China National Adhesive Industry Association reported recently that the adhesive output of China in 2001 was 2.61 million tons, an increase of 7.4％ over 2000 (The number given by the Statistics Bureau of China is only 0.6 million tons in 2002). The total adhesive sales revenue has increased to RMB18 billion in 2001. China has over 2000 adhesive manufacturers now, most of which are small and medium-sized enterprises. The adhesive industry is moving towards environmentally friendly products. In 2001, China imported 150 000 tons of adhesives and related products.
