China's demand for building materials has grown at a fast pace in the past decade. In the next five years, both production and demand will continue to grow. China’s nearly-two-decade high economic growth has spurred the rapidly rising consumption of building materials. Since 1990, the country’s construction consumption has grown clearly. The total consumption for construction will increase 11.8％ annually to 2,389 billion Yuan in the year 2005, including 1,445 billion Yuan for residential buildings and 944 billion Yuan for commercial buildings. The development in the construction industry will lead to the advance of the building materials industry. Currently in China the output can meet the advancing demand for building materials but in order to maintain the balance, China will continue to expand its production capacity.
