In view of the promising outlook of China's toy cars market, many Hong Kong and overseas companies are actively exploring opportunities on the mainland. Over the past few years, toy cars sales across all price segments have increased sharply in China. In 2003, the total toy sales by retail enterprises with annual sales exceeding Rmb5 million rose by 13.4% to Rmb2.87 billion. More than 50% of the world's radio-controlled toys are China made. Toy cars are among the most popular types collected today. In recent years the industry has seen rapid changes in technology and gadgets, including wireless data, MP3 players and DVD players for toy cars. According to one industry forecast, the toy cars audio industry will continue to face challenges. After strong sales in 2002, revenue from the sale of mobile audio equipment dipped in 2003 and 2004, according to Ross Rubin, an analyst with the NPD Group/NPD Techworld. Revenue during the 12-month period that ended in March 2004 was about $460 million, down from $490 million during the same period in 2002 and 2003. Revenue from March 2001 to March 2002 was $540 million.
