air beds
Air beds are inflatable beds, usually made of plastic or textile-reinforced plastic or rubber. The deflated beds can be rolled up or folded and carried or stored relatively easily, making air mattresses a popular choice for camping trips and for temporary bedding at home for guests. They are inflated either orally by blowing into a valve, or with a manual foot-powered or electric pump. Some are even automatically inflating (up to a certain pressure -- usually some manual work is also needed) just by opening the valve. Almost 10% of all patients confined to a bed suffer from pressure ulcers, and to treat those bedsores, hospitals frequently utilize specialized beds. These products may be airloss beds or air-fluidized beds. The annual bill for the treatment of pressure ulcers by all means is more than $1.3 billion, though the specialty bed market is estimated at approximately one-third of that total. Pressure relief products in the current market include not only beds, but mattresses, overlays and other devices, separated into full-support and area-support products. A single high-end therapy bed can cost as much as $40,000, making rentals of between $150 and $200 per day for framed products and $25 to $75 for overlays most attractive.
