Formic acid finds its applications mainly in the manufacture of pesticides, pharmaceuticals in the processing of leather, rubber and latex. It is a traditional export product of China. Since last year the formic acid market has gone out of recession and begun to turn from weak to brisk. The reasons can be summed up as follows. Formic acid is obtained through the absorption of tail gas from the yellow phosphorus manufacturing. Its output is therefore closely dependent upon the manufacture of yellow phosphorus. But since 1991 the output of formic acid has gone down.
