Product Description

3M High Temperature Performance Green Automotive Painting Masking Tape 233+ is a high performance, versatile crepe paper masking tape designed specifically for the collision repair industry. It's our highest conforming paper tape for easiest usability while providing sharp paint lines and excellent stick & stay.

Green Masking Tape 233+ delivers consistently superior performance on moldings, plastic, glass, metal, rubber and paint. Balanced four-part construction includes flexible backing that applies easily around vehicle curves and contours and the patented adhesive that sticks at a touch, stays put and removes without transfer for consistently outstanding paint lines.

Resists temperatures up to 250°F (121°C) for up to 30 minutes, making it suitable for longer baking cycles. All of this is built into a very low-profile tape which won't leave high edges that require extra buffing or rework.

  • Premium paper backing resists breaking, lifting, and edge curl for ease of use and less material waste
  • Developed to provide high conformability with clean removal and sharp paint lines
  • Superior resistance to UV, moisture, and solvents compared to other paper tapes
  • Release coating minimizes unwind force, reducing wrinkling and paint blow-by

Application

1. General masking applications, including use on apron tapers & other masking machines.
2. Fine line masking applications

Tape is designed for indoor use - exposure to sun and heat may cause tape to become more difficult to remove.
1. Make sure surfaces are thoroughly clean and dry before applying masking tape.
2. Some surfaces, such as rubber gaskets and moldings, should be cleaned with a solvent to remove residual release agents from the manufacturing process before applying masking tape.
3. For best adhesion, surface temperatures should range from 60°F to 90°F when tape is applied.
4. For easier application and removal, apply long continuous strips of tape in flat, straight areas and break the as needed when going around contours or curves (such as wheel arches). The objective when back masking and over taping is to keep the tape lying flat and rolled back, away from the paint edge in order to produce the cleanest look.

Tape removal:
1. For general applications, tape should be removed back over itself at a 45° angle.
2. For removal on delicate surfaces (such as old weathered paint), tape should be removed as close to a 180° angle as possible.
3. For fine line work, tape should be removed at a 45° angle away from the paint edge, at a slow speed with surface temperatures ranging from 60-90°F. This helps "cut" the paint line for the cleanest edge.
