ESD mats are designed to drain static charges from items placed on its surface They also protect the surface of the ESD sensitive devices from wear-and-tear Made from durable materials, the ESD safe mats are designed to be long-lasting whilst maintaining their antistatic properties. For a mat to effectively ground an item, the item must be either conductive or static-dissipative, as the insulative items will not allow charge to drain to ground, for example most of the plastics.
