FEQ BURMESE TEAK WOOD FACTS

ORIGINS:  Native to Burma (Myanmar), India, Indonesia and China
BOTANICAL NAME:  Tectona grandis
COMMON NAME:  Burmese Teak, Genuine Teak
COLOR DETAILS:  Heartwood is reddish to golden brown, sapwood is pale yellow to tan. Teak wood darkens naturally with exposure to light. FEQ grade is pure heartwood.
  • Teak does not warp, crack, or discolor when in direct contact with metals.
  • Teak leaves were once used in the treatment of bacterial infections, fungal infections, ulcers, bronchitis, nausea, and even diabetes.
  • The decks of he Titanic were covered with Teak Wood because of its non-skid properties.
  • Teak's high oil and natural silica content makes it one of the most durable species available for outdoor and high moisture applications.  It is highly resistant to climate extremes, insects, fungus, rot, and does not become slippery when wet.  It is truly one of the most versatile species of hardwood available and is routinely used in high end residential and commercial applications.

FEQ is defined as first European Quality and requires the wood to have no sapwood, knots or wormholes and be 100% heartwood and be Tectona Grandis or "Burmese Teak" rather than many industry "stand in woods" such as Golden Teak, African Teak or Brazilian Teak which are not teak at all and do not share the same resistant properties.

Perfect for uses where very high-quality finishing is needed but where only one side is visible. Blends beauty and durability with value! 10% cheaper than FEQ. Minimal to no formed knots or pinholes present. Reverse side may contain tight knots.
