Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, English name is ETRA-2-HEXYLDECANOATE, alias: fat-soluble vitamin C, esterified C, esterified vitamin C, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is mainly used as an antioxidant in cosmetics and skin care products, whitening and removing spots. The risk factor is 1, which is relatively safe and can be used with confidence. It generally has no effect on pregnant women. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is not acne-causing.

Minimize fine lines and wrinkles

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate has been shown to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sun-damaged skin. When combined with a broad-spectrum SPF and retinol, the improvement in fine lines is even more visible.

Prevent dry skin

By promoting improved fibroblast function, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate also enhances hydration in dry skin, as shown in multiple clinical studies exploring THD Ascorbate's efficacy as an active ingredient. This is likely due to improved nutrient transfer.

Keep acne under control

Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate can be beneficial for acne-prone skin. It can help simultaneously unclog congested pores, mitigate inflammation from acne breakouts, and lighten hyperpigmentation (dark spots) that can sometimes result from acne scarring.

Repair sun-damaged skin

Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate enhances the skin's natural SPF by boosting resistance to UV damage. THD Ascorbate also helps to decrease melanin synthesis. Clinical studies show that consistent  Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate application improves the look of pigmentation, sun-spots, and melasma. That said, a vitamin C-based skincare product can make skin more sensitive to UV, so be sure to apply sunscreen (SPF30 minimum) every day .

Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, as a vitamin C derivative, penetrates into the skin and transforms into vitamin C and then plays the role of vitamin C (hence it is also called a vitamin C derivative). It is a colorless to light yellow liquid with good oil solubility and can be widely and quickly dissolved in esters, vegetable oils, ethanol and hydrocarbons (except polyols). At the same time, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is mild and non-irritating, so it can be used for sensitive skin.

Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate esterifies hydroxyl groups based on the molecular structure of vitamin C (as shown in the figure below). It is the most stable of all vitamin C derivatives. It is very stable under air and light, even if heated at high temperatures. Can maintain stability.
Due to its good oil solubility and similar compatibility with skin lipids, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate has excellent transdermal absorption rate. Its absorption rate in the epidermis can reach more than 20% and 1% in the dermis. The absorption capacity of 2% is 3 times that of L-vitamin C.
