CALCIUM GLUCONATE INJECTION BP 1G/10ML
Composition:
Each 10ml ampoule contains:
Calcium Gluconate BP .....1G
Molecular Formula:C12H22CaO14
Pharmacological Action:
Calcium is essential to body metabolism and must be supplemented when deficient owing to disease state or other conditions.
Indication:
All conditions where need of supplemented calcium is indicated , calcium gluconate is the preferred form for injection .
Contra Indication :
Should not be given concurrently with digitalis therapy.
Dosage and Administration:
1 to 2 g by intramuscular or intravenous injection .
Children up to 1 year , up to 300mg ; 1 to 5 years , 300 to 600 mg; 6 to 12years , 600 to 1000mg , by slow intravenous injection.
Warning and Precautions :
Intramuscular injection in infants has been reported to use abscess formation .The oral or intravenous route should be used.
Known symptoms of overdosage and particulars of its treatment:
Overdosage with calcium salts results in hypercalcaemia.
Symptoms include anorexia ,muscle and joint pains , nausea and vomiting , thirst and polyuria .The deposition of calcium in the kindney leads to loss of renal concentration capacity and renal damage . Elevated serum calcium concentrations can produce bradycardia and cardiac arrhythmias.
Storage :
Store bellow 30ºC. Protect from light .Do not freeze .
Injection should be discarded if any visible particles seen .
