It is soluble in ethanol and ether but insoluble in water, and it has a strong irritant effect. The melting point of anthracene is 217°C, the boiling point is 345°C, the autoignition temperature is 540°C, and the closed cup flash point is 121.11°C. The lower explosive limit is 0.6%. Anthracene oil is flammable and corrosive, classified as an organic corrosive substance.
