    uPVC Plastic Ceiling Panels

    Plastic Ceiling Panels, also known as ceiling cladding, uPVC ceiling panels or plastic ceilings have become more and more popular in bathroom installation due to there many advantages over traditional plastered ceilings. 
    Ceiling panels are quick and easy to install, do not need painting, do not absorb steam and water that can lead to damp and mould problems and are easy to clean and maintain. The uPVC ceiling will last for years with little to no maintenance. No more having to repaint you bathroom ceiling year after year with expensive bathroom ceiling paint
    PVC ceilings, often referred to as plastic ceilings, are becoming more and more popular in bathrooms and kitchens. Plastic ceilings offer many advantages over traditional ceilings which make them more suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and rooms with steam and damp conditions.

    Advantages of a plastic ceiling

    The main advantages of a plastic ceiling derive from the properties of plastics, for example:
    Plastic is a non-hygroscopic material and does not absorb water, the advantage of this in a bathroom is that steam from the bath or shower will not be absorbed into the ceiling. So unlike a traditional plastered ceiling which can go mouldy from steam absorption, plastic ceilings will not go mouldy.
    Plastic ceilings are easy to clean using any household cleaners or a damp/dry cloth. Plastic ceilings  just need a quick wipe from time to time to keep them looking like new.
    Plastic ceilings do not need painting. No more weekends spent painting and repainting bathroom ceilings with expensive paint. Plastic ceilings come in the chosen colour ready to install.
    Easy to install, Plastic ceilings are easy to install with limited tools. A competent DIYer can install a plastic ceiling in a couple of hours with only a hand saw, screw drill or staple gun and a silicone gun and can be installed over an existing plastered or artexed ceiling.
    Can be installed with downlightsand is a great way of concealing wiring. Downlights, also known as spot lights, are popular upgrades in bathrooms and kitchens but require additional wiring runs and holes to be drilled in the ceiling. Plastic ceilings are perfect for covering over the damage to the existing ceiling caused from the downlight installation, so no need for the ceiling to re-plastered skimmed and painted.
    Plastic ceilings can be installed on a wooden or metal framework.
    Plastic ceiling can be used as a suspended ceiling.

    Disadvantages of a plastic ceiling

    Like most things, there are a couple of disadvantages to a plastic ceiling:
    Due to their construction, and the plastic in which they are made, heat can cause damage to the ceiling, this means that the lighting that is on the ceiling needs to be energy efficient and not produce large amounts of heat. LED light bulbs etc will need to be installed.
    Due to the way plastic ceilings are installed, joint lines between each board may be visible.
    When plastic ceiling panels are new and being installed, a static charge can build up on the surface of the boards. This charge is not enough to harm but is enough to attract dust and dirt. This is easily cleaned off but may take a day or 2 for the static charge to dissipate.
    Once a plastic ceiling is installed you cannot change its colour, should you wish to change the colour of the ceiling, new cladding would need to be installed.
