It creates a cocoon of warmth, resulting in the maximal heat transfer towards the patients which improves your patient's outcome through effective patient warming. 4. It increases the warming capacity with at least 10% by reducing radiant heat loss.The warming blankets may reduce heat loss by up to 80% in the perioperative environment. 5. WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO WARM THE PATIENT?
A constant body temperature between 36 °C and 37,5 °C is important. The body system will take care of thermoregulation, but not when this function is shut down by anesthesia.
If the core temperature is too low, this may result in a greater risk of infection. Hypothermia may cause complications and with that increase costs.
When the operation under general anaesthesia lasts more than 3 hours or the general operation lasts more than 2 hours, hypothermia is easy to occur.
