Indications:
Antimalarial drug. For the treatment of all kinds of malaria, including chloroquine-resistant P. falciparum malaria, and as a first aid for severe malaria.
Usage and dosage:
Administered via intramuscular injection, this treatment spans five days. Start with an initial dose of 3.2 mg/kg, followed by 1.6 mg/kg for the next four days. For adults, begin with a 160 mg dose (2 ampoules), followed by 80 mg (1 ampoule) from the 2nd to the 5th day. Adjust doses for children or overweight patients based on weight or as prescribed by a doctor.
Adverse reactions:
Clinical dosage generally reveals minimal adverse reactions. Some individuals may experience a temporary low-grade fever or reticulocytopenia. Minor increases in SGOT and SGPT levels can occur in some cases. Rarely, arrhythmias, such as ventricular tachycardia, may be observed.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Use with caution during the first trimester of pregnancy due to observed cases of fetal absorption.
Administration and Children:
For children, dosage should be adjusted based on individual weight or as per doctor's prescription.
Drug interactions:
Literature reviews and studies show that Artemether's active substance does not interact with other drugs to decrease therapeutic effects or increase toxicity and side effects.
Overdosage:
Although no overdosage cases have been documented, in the event of an accident,
symptomatic treatment is recommended under a doctor's supervision.
