Polypropylene (PP) is a polymer made catalytically from propylene and differs from HDPE in that hydrogen atoms on alternating carbon atoms in the backbone are replaced by methyl groups. A major advantage of polypropylene is its high temperature resistance, which makes it particularly suitable for items such as trays, funnels, buckets, bottles, carboys and instrument jars that must be frequently sterilized when used in clinical settings. Polypropylene is a translucent material with excellent mechanical properties that has gradually replaced polyethylene in many applications.
