Third, chemical properties
Properties of aqueous solution: aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, pH value is 8~9.
Stability: not volatile with water vapour, can selectively absorb hydrogen sulphide.
Uses
Oil field gas and gas purification: used as desulphurisation purification emulsifier and acid gas absorber.
Acid and alkali control: used as acid and alkali control agent.
Polyurethane industry: used as a catalyst for the reaction of foam, cationic polyurethane emulsion chain extender.
Other applications: It can also be used as the intermediate of anti-tumour drug nitrogen mustard hydrochloride, catalyst of urethane coating, insecticide, emulsifier, semi-finished product of fabric auxiliary, fibre auxiliary and so on, and it is also a kind of drying promoter of paint.
V. Production method
Reaction of formaldehyde and diethanolamine: add the mixture of formaldehyde and diethanolamine dropwise to the reaction pot heated to boiling, maintain the temperature at 90~98ºC, continue to reflux the reaction and then distill under reduced pressure to obtain N-methyldiethanolamine.
Reaction between methylamine and ethylene oxide: keep the temperature below 30ºC, pass the gas of ethylene oxide into the methylamine solution for addition reaction, get the reaction product and then distil water under reduced pressure, collect the fraction that is the finished product.
