It is easy to dissolve in water, slightly dissolve in ethanol, and it is insoluble in diethyl ether. Sodium sulphide industrial grade has an appearance of brick red or yellow flakes.

The main applications are production of sulfur dye and leather depilatory, metallurgy, photograph and rayon denitration and so on.
