1.2-Dichloroethane, or o-dichloroethane, has a chemical formula of C2H4Cl2 and is a type of halogenated hydrocarbon. It is mainly used as an intermediate in the production of vinyl chloride (polyvinyl chloride monomer) and is also used as a solvent. It is a colorless liquid with a chloroform-like odor at room temperature. It is toxic and potentially carcinogenic. Possible solvent substitutes include 1,3-dioxane
