| What is Levamisole Hydrochloride Levamisole Hydrochloride, an organic compound with the chemical formula C11H13ClN2S, is a white to nearly white crystalline powder that is an anthelmintic and bioreactive mediator. Levamisole hydrochloride is the levorotatory form of tetraimidazole, which selectively inhibits succinate dehydrogenase in the muscles of the worms, so that fenugreek cannot be reduced to succinate, thus affecting anaerobic metabolism in the muscles of the worms and decreasing energy production. When the worm comes into contact with it, it can depolarize the neuromuscular, and the muscle undergoes sustained contraction resulting in paralysis; the cholinomimetic effect of the drug facilitates the expulsion of the worm. |
| Application & Function It is effective against roundworms, hookworms, pinworms and fecal roundworm disease. It is suitable for group treatment due to its high efficiency in a single dose. It is more active than ethamizine against adult filarial worms of Bancroftian, Malayan and Onchocerca volvulus and microfilariae, but the long-term efficacy is poorer. | |
