The classification & characteristics of glow plug Regarding the construction of glow plug,there are two types: coil type and sheath type.The coil type where the heating coil is exposed,and this type is the main by the 1970s. The sheath type where the coil is protected by the heat resistance pipe.Now this type is the most popular taken over all other types of glow plugs.Moreover.the sheath type is divided into two categories for the heating time as follows.
Standard Type In 15-20 sec to 800ºC The coil resistance increases as the temperature goes up,and the current is almost double of the nominal current when the glow is engaged,and it is possible to heat up quickly. Super Quick Type Max.10 sec to 800ºC While a heating coil and a self-regulating coil be mixed in agreement,it will result in an excellent response to the system simple and quick start.
Proper Using Method 1 .Obey the instructions of the manufacturer for the battery capacity because the diesel engine consumes more electricity than the gasoline engine at the starting time,Insufficiency of the battery capacity may not heat the glow plug sufficiently resulting in starting difficulty.The same phenomenon will occur if the battery is deteriorated. 2.Make sure of the manufacture* s part number in accordance with BERLT product catalogue when you select the glow plug.Mistakes in selection may sometimes result in difficulty of starting(e.g. using the product specified for 24v in a 12v vehicle)or melting of the glow plug(e.g. using the product specified for 12v in a 24v vehicle). 3.20 seconds,under 10 seconds and 20 seconds for the Standard type. S.Q type and Coil type respectively to be heated up.When it does not start excellengly after preliminary heating.continuous feeding of electricity may consume battery power considerably and gives an unfavorable influence upon the service life of the glow plug.Turn the switch to OFF after preliminary heating and turn ON again.
Notice: 1.Please make sure to clean glow plug holes of engine well, so plug can be inserted easily and smoothly. 2.Tighten glow plug with fingers first up to plug seat, then retighten to 1.5 to 2.0 kg.m. 3.Follow heating conditions as specified by the engine manufacturer. 4.Dropped glow plugs may not be used.
The Procedures For Trouble-shooting 1 .Breakage Before replace it,check it to see if the glow plug has been wired properly.Check with a tester also to see if any more than the rated voltage is being applied to it. 2.Short-circuits or resultant breakage Repair any shorted parts of the wiring before replacement. 3.Faulty starting Remove glow plugs and apply a rated voltage to check for heating(ln most cases.bad starting may be due to other causes.) 4.Bent glow elements or breakage In replace of a new plug,also checking engine for timing or excess of fuel injection etc. 5.Bulging glow tubes(Sheathed types) Replace with a new glow plug.
