NMN, short for β-nicotinamide mononucleotide, naturally occurs in living cells and is the precursor of coenzyme 1 NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). The lifespan can be appropriately extended. The real anti-aging effect is an important energy metabolite called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+).
Decreased NAD+ levels with age lead to a decline in DNA repair capacity and accumulation of DNA damage, which drives the aging process.
