AAAC--All Aluminum Alloy Conductor Cables
AAAC are made out of high strength Aluminium-Magnesium-Silicon alloy. AAAC is used as a bare overhead conductor for power transmission and distribution lines, on aerial circuits that require a larger mechanical resistance than AAC, and a better corrosion resistance than ACSR, The sag characteristics and the strength-to-weight ratio of AAAC is better than both AAC/ACSR.
1.ScopeThis specification covers concentric-lay-stranded conductors, made from round aluminum-alloy 6201-T81 (hard:solution heat-treated, cold worked, and then artificially aged) wires, for use for electrical purposes. These conductors shall be constructed with a central core surrounded by one or more layers of helically laid wire.
2.Construction
AAAC is made from aluminium-magnesium silicon alloy of high electrical conductivity containing enough magnesium silicide to give it better mechanical properties after treatment. These conductors are generally made out of aluminium alloy 6201.
3. Applications
Used for overhead distribution and transmission lines especially adjacent to ocean coastlines for corrosion resistance.
