A ceramic sensor made of zirconia electrolyte measures the concentration of oxygen entering the first chamber from exhaust gas through a diffusion barrier layer through current measurement.The oxygen concentration in the chamber is controlled to a very small constant concentration.Other components in the exhaust gas also enter the chamber with HC, CO, and H2, and are oxidized on the pump electrode made of platinum.A small amount of PPM oxygen and nitrogen oxides enter the second chamber together from the first chamber, where all oxygen is pumped out by an auxiliary pump.On the measuring electrode, the dynamic balance equation NO<->N2+O2 has changed because the oxygen generated by the reduction of NO is pumped out.The concentration of nitrogen and oxygen in the exhaust gas is determined by measuring the current generated by the generation of oxygen, IP 2.
