BENZATHINE BENZYLPENICILLIN FOR INJECTION
B.P. 2.4 MEGA FOR I.M. USE
This preparation is available in the form of a sterile dry powder containing Benzathine Penicillin with suitable suspending and buffering agents. The advantage of Benzathine Penicillin is that due to their solubility in water very low (about 200IU/ml), so absorption and excretion are slowly, in various Penicillin preparations, Benzathine Penicillin is longest prolonged action. Therefore, a single dose injection of Benzathine Penicillin can maintain an effective concentration in blood for 1-4 weeks.
Actions and Uses:
It has the same indications as Penicillin. As its peak blood concentrations relatively low, it is only indicated in mild infections caused by Penicillin-sensitive bacteria such as tonsilitis, scarlet fever, erysipelas, furuncles carbuncles. It is also effective for syphilis, Vencent's angina and gonorrhea, rheumatism.
Usage and Dosage:
It is given by I.M. injection only, A suitable amount water for injection is added into the vial before use, shake well to form a suspension.
600,000IU-1,200,000IU each time once a week.
In the case of syphilis 2,400,000IU a time.
For prevent of streptococcus infections and control for relapse of rheumatism, 2,400,000IU each time, once 4 weeks.
or according to medical order and physician's prescription.
Caution:
1. Skin sensitive test of Penicillin should be made before use. It should not be administered to patients hypersensitive to Penicillin.
2. The suspension prepared by adding a suitable amount of water for injection into the vial, should be stored below 10ºC and used up within one week.
