Barium carbonate 99% is an inorganic compound that appears as a white powder. It is toxic. It can dissolve in dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute nitric acid, acetic acid, ammonium chloride solution, and ammonium sulfate solution. It is slightly soluble in water containing carbon dioxide and insoluble in water. At approximately 1300°C, it decomposes into barium oxide and carbon dioxide.
