The Cartridage Trays For Small Diameter and Flanged Columns
Cartridge trays are a bundle of trays and downcomers held together on a rod assembly. each bundle is called a cartridge.
when column diameters are smaller then about 2.5' to 3 feet. a person cannnot enter the column to install, insepect, and maintain the trays. because of this limitation, a 2.5' to 3 ft column is often installed, even if a smaller diameter is hydraulically sufficent. alternatively, either packings or cartridge trays can be used, and column diameter reduced below 2.5 ft.
