To meet these demands, formulators are using low-viscosity polyalphaolefin synthetic base stocks (viscosities ranging from 2 cSt to 10 cSt) to achieve better low-temperature properties, low volatility and better oxidative stability than mineral base stocks.

They can also be added to mineral oils to enhance their performance. They can also be used with high-viscosity PAOs, metallocene PAOs and alkylated naphthalenes (ANs) to formulate cross-grade engine and automotive gear oils, as well as a variety of ISO VG industrial oils.
