Characteristic:

SnCl2 dihydrate reacts with acetic-anhydride to form anhydrous SnCl2. SnCl2 exhibits reducing properties in acidic media. [1] SnCl2 has excellent catalytic properties in the molten state. It is an ideal raw material for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of semiconductor layers. [1] SnCl2 participates in the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds, nitriles, cyanosilyl ethers, and organic azides.

Anhydrous stannous chloride is a white orthorhombic crystal-with a relative molecular weight of 189.60. Relative density 3.95 (25ºC). Melting point 246.5ºC. Boiling point 652ºC. Vapor pressure (×103Pa): 0.0133 (257ºC), 0.133 (319ºC), 1.333 (398ºC), 13.332 (509ºC). Insoluble in soluble in ethanol, ether (55.6% at 18ºC), and .-pyridine.




Applications

Anhydrous tin dichloride is used in dyes, fragrances, mirror making, electroplating, and other industries; and is used as ultra-high pressure lubricating oil, bleaching agent, reducing agent, mordant, decolorizing agent analytical reagent, and is used for the determination of silver, -arsenic, molybdenum. Strong reducing agent. Determine inorganic phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase activity in serum. Molybdenum blue method for determining phosphorus content in soil and plants. Organic reaction catalyst. Used as a reducing agent, mordant, acid tin plating, and as main salt. Used in the glass mirror industry as a sensitizer for silver-nitrate plating to improve the brightness of the coating.
