Indications: 

The function of Orthopedic polymer casting tape is to provide support and immobilization in case of fractures or injuries.  Its functions include:

· Stabilize fractures, sprains and other soft tissue injuries,

· Ortho prosthetic applications and repeating molds.

Advantages:

5. Lightweight: Compared to traditional plasters, it is lighter and contributes to the comfort and convenience of the patient.

In general, polymer plaster orthopedic tape provides effective support and protection, promoting recovery and healing of the injured area.

Operating Instructions:

1. First apply a nonelastic tubular bandage and a padded bandage over the area where the mold is to be applied. Additional cushioning at pressure points and bone prominences is optional as an additional protection.

2. Open only one bandage at a time. Open aluminum bag by pulling tabs diagonally down. Wear gloves to prevent resin from sticking to the wearer's skin.

3. Immerse the bandages, one by one, in warm water (20 - 25ºC). The solidification time can be modified by varying the number of times the submerged bandage is squeezed (recommended 1 to 3 times) as well as the water temperature. By increasing the number of layers, the number of times the band is squeezed or the temperature of the water, the exotherm will be increased in the solidification process.

4. Apply the bands in the form of a spiral exerting a slight uniform tension (10% elongation approx.) superimposing each layer 50% of the previous one. From 2 to 4 layers are sufficient in the no-load areas and from 5 to 8 layers in the load-resistant areas. The degree of stiffness is determined by the number of layers used (the more layers used, the stiffer the mold).  

5. For a good lamination (adhesion between layers) rub the final mold in its entirety. The final shape of the mold is achieved by holding the desired position for approximately the last 30 seconds of the setting time.  

6. The molding time is 3 - 5 minutes, depending on the immersion technique. Weight-bearing capacity is achieved in approximately 20 minutes.  

7. Molds can be reinforced or repaired with additional bandages or splints.  

8. Remove the excess using shears or a cast saw. It may be necessary to make two cuts on opposite faces (bivalves).
