Functions of Transformer Core

1. Provide a low-reluctance magnetic path: Ensures efficient magnetic flux conduction, reduces leakage flux, and improves energy conversion efficiency.  

2. Reduce losses 
   - Eddy current loss: Minimized by using laminated or wound thin-core structures.  
   - Hysteresis loss: Reduced by selecting high-permeability materials (e.g., grain-oriented silicon steel, amorphous alloy).  

3. Mechanical support: Secures windings to prevent deformation caused by electromagnetic forces or vibrations.  

4. Impact on transformer performance 
   - E-core: Low cost but higher losses, suitable for general applications.  
   - Toroidal/R-core: High efficiency and low noise, ideal for premium equipment.
