Operating Principle of the Single-Screw CompressorThe marvel of the single-screw compressor lies in its sophisticated design, utilizing a pair of intermeshing helical rotors, aptly named the male and female rotors. These rotors, adorned with several concave teeth, rotate in opposite directions with remarkable precision. The microscopic gap, measuring a mere 5 to 10 microns, between the rotors and the casing ensures seamless operation. The main rotor, typically the male, is powered by an engine or electric motor, while the female rotor glides gracefully, driven by a film of oil from injection or synchronized gears, abolishing any metal-to-metal contact. As the rotors elegantly turn, their grooves fill with gas upon reaching the intake port. Enclosed by the casing wall, these grooves form a dynamic compression chamber. This chamber is infused with lubricating oil, enhancing the seal, cooling, and lubrication. As the rotation persists, the chamber's volume diminishes, efficiently compressing the gas into a harmonious oil-gas mixture. This mixture is then gracefully expelled through the exhaust port, completing the cycle of intake, compression, and exhaust with unparalleled efficiency.
