Chitosan it is also known as chitin, deacetyl chitin, desylchitin, soluble chitin, soluble chitin. Amorphous solid, specific optical rotation [α]D11-3°~+10°. Almost insoluble in water, but soluble in organic acids such as acetic acid, benzoic acid and naphthenic acid, as well as dilute inorganic acids. Industrial products are white or off-white translucent flaky solids with a slight pearly luster. Odorless, non-toxic, easy to degrade, is a rare natural cationic polyelectrolyte. Polysaccharides obtained by hydrolysis or enzymatic cleavage of acetyl groups on chitinin glycosyls. Soluble in low acidity aqueous solution, good biocompatibility, no antigenicity, insoluble in human fluids. It is obtained by using chitin in the shells of lower animals and plants, such as arthropods (shrimp and crabs), which are widely present in nature, and deacetylation by alkali and heating.
