Honeycomb seal function:The use of welded honeycomb structure in turbine machines provides the following advantage. During the period of run-in and operation of the turbine machine the excess material of the welded honeycomb seal is removed when the parts of the turbine move or rotate. As a result of this, the gap between the fixed and moving or rotating parts is ensured at the minimum possible level without damaging the parts, thereby increasing the efficiency and power of the turbine machine, since leakages or overflows of the working fluid into the gap between the fixed and moving or rotating parts are reduced.Due to the use of welded honeycomb seal, it is possible to carry out preliminary electro-discharge or conventional machining of the honeycomb strip.
