Glacial acetic acid, chemical formula CH COOH, is an organic monobasic acid, which is the source of sour taste and pungent smell in vinegar. Pure anhydrous acetic acid (glacial acetic acid) is a colorless hygroscopic liquid with a freezing point of 16.7 ºC (62 ºF), and it is colorless crystal after solidification. Although acetic acid is a weak acid according to its dissociation ability in aqueous solution, acetic acid is corrosive and its steam has irritating effect on eyes and nose.
