Empagliflozin, a sodium-dependentglucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor, was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly.SGLT-2 inhibitor is a novel hypoglycemic agent, mainly by inhibiting the expression of SGLT-2, reduce the reabsorption of glucose in the kidney, increase the excretion of glucose in the urine, so as to reduce the plasma glucose level, and its hypoglycemic effect is independent of β-cell function and insu lin resistance.
