Ordinary mirror VS Two-way mirror:
A mirror is a smooth surface that reflects almost all light that strikes it. The surface must be smooth, as rough surfaces scatter light rather than reflect it.
Two-way mirrors have very thin reflective coatings compared to regular mirrors. The layer is so thin that only half of the light reflects back to the person standing in front of it, with the rest passing through the glass and allowing people on the other side to see.
How to tell if a mirror is two-way?
You can see the other side through the mirror. Cup your hands to minimize light and look in the mirror. If it's a two-way mirror, you can see through it. (Note: This is the best and most reliable method.)
Fingernail test: Touch the mirror surface with your fingernail. If your fingernail is touching the image, it's probably a two-way mirror. If there is a gap between the nail and the image, the back of the mirror is silvered instead of the surface. It may not be a two-way mirror.
